The North Carolina Community Development Association was formed in 1979 to provide a unified voice for community development officials across the state.
The goal of the Association is to provide:
- Recommendations to federal and state agencies regarding policy and/or program guidelines; and
- A forum for the exchange of information and experience among agencies concerned in all areas of Community Development.
We encourage all community development professionals from across the state to join us as we collectively revitalize and develop safe, decent, and affordable neighborhoods in our local communities.
President's Message

Over the past six months, your Board of Directors has been working diligently moving forward with the numerous "New Directions" Goals and Strategies which were identified and committed to at the Board Retreat in August of 2007. Some of these efforts are behind the scenes work and others front stage.
Behind the Scenes
- The President and Secretary/Treasurer traveled to the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM) to perform NCCDA's annual audit. The audit revealed that all financial documents were in proper order.
- The President and Vice President traveled to NCLM to review the NCCDA's affiliation agreement and to discuss implementation strategies that enhance communications, efficiently utilizes NCLM's staff time, and its affiliation with NCLM.
- The NCCDA adopted the organization's 2007-08 annual budget in January, 2008.
- The Board of Directors resolved the contractual challenges related to the NCCDA.org website and restored our ownership of the NCCDA domain name.
- The Membership and Nominating Committee has been meeting to discuss membership issues and to develop strategies to expand the organization's membership and improve membership services.
- The Board of Directors continues to meet every other month to coordinate and implement organization initiatives and manage the NCCDA finances and services.
- The Communications and Marketing Committee is beginning the process of updating the NCCDA website information, the NCCDA membership brochures, and the NCCDA information brochure.
- Based on past conference evaluations and members input, the Training and Conference Committee is developing a very engaging Spring 2008 Conference. Whether you are program administrators, rehabilitation specialists or project managers, we believe the Conference will be very informative and educational
Front and Center
- The Training and Conference Committee developed and managed a very successful Fall Conference in Chapel Hill, NC, which partnered with the North Carolina Housing Counselors Association and provided excellent training sessions for the 100 plus attendees.
- NCCDA.org and NCCDA.net are linked and will connect members to same site.
- Organizational by-laws revisions, which were approved at the November 2007 Membership Meeting, are now viewable on the NCCDA website. CD copies of the revised by-laws will be available at the NCCDA Spring Conference in Asheville.
Your Board continues to be excited and motivated about implementing these initiatives. Each initiative continues to building a stronger NCCDA that meets the training, networking, and advocacy needs of our membership.
